You've probably heard that yoga is good for you. Maybe you have even tried yoga and discovered that it makes you feel better. But what are the specific health benefits you will enjoy from doing yoga regularly?

Physical Benefits

Flexibility: Stretching your body in new ways will help it become more flexible, bringing a greater range of motion to muscles and joints. Over time, you can expect to gain flexibility in your hamstrings, back, shoulders, and hips.

Strength: Yoga poses require you to support the weight of your body in new ways, and to use all of your muscles, not just the superficial main muscles used in fitness training. All poses are held for at least 20 seconds, requiring much strength and endurance. Because the practice takes place in a heated room —it feels like running a marathon— your heart will get stronger and will work in harmony with the lungs.

Muscle tone: As a by-product of getting stronger, you will see increased muscle tone. Yoga helps shape long, lean muscles.
