This new Hot Yoga studio just off the Meir in central Antwerp offers public
and private classes in Bikram Yoga and other health-focused activity.
Bikram Yoga is named after its founder, Bikram Choudhury, who studied Yoga in India with Bishnu Ghosh, the brother of Paramahansa Yogananda. Bikram Yoga is a series of twenty-six poses performed in a room with a temperature of 105¡F (40.5¡C). Each Yoga Pose is performed twice and held for a given period of time. A Bikram Yoga class usually runs for 90 minutes. A typical Bikram Yoga Session starts from Standing Postures, then moves to Backbends, Forward Bends, and Twists, and finally to floor poses and breathing/relaxation exercises. The poses are accompanied by Kapalabhati Breath or the "blowing in firm".
Some people are often discouraged to practice Yoga by thinking that they are not flexible enough. Yoga is not about being flexible, but about strengthening your body and your spine in all directions with the goal of creating a union between the body, mind and spirit. All that matters is to try the right way without pushing yourself too far. The practice of Bikram Yoga promotes the cleansing of the body, release toxins, builds strength and aids flexibility. It can also reduce stress and increase blood circulation. The practice of Bikram Yoga can also help you lose weight and develop muscles.
